First, you'll need to know your pool's volume, surface type, temperature, and if it's a saltwater pool or not. If you don't know the volume, use our calculator to get a good estimate.
If you don't input volume, the tool will still work. You just won't get any clear recommendations or next steps.
Next, run a full set of tests for each chemistry parameter:
It is highly recommended to use a testing kit that tests for all parameters rather than strips. Knowing how healthy your water is only determined by how well you can test the pool.
Once you input your numbers, you'll see right away if your pool water is balanced or not based on recommended chemistry levels.
There will be a list of which parameters are not in range and need attention. Based on your pool's volume, recommended chemical doses will be given to get those parameters in a targeted range.
You will also see a calcium saturation index (CSI) number. This is a quick read on whether your water is trending toward scaling or etching the pool surface.
If one or more of your pool chemistry parameters fall outside the recommended range, adjustments may be needed to bring the water back into balance.
Small changes are usually best, since large chemical additions can cause other levels to shift unexpectedly.
As mentioned, estimates of how much of a chemical to add will be given based on your pool volume and current test results, helping you make controlled corrections instead of guessing.
Keep in mind that some chemicals will affect more than one parameter. For example, pH and TA have a strong relationship in pool chemistry.
BOTH of these parameters are lowered by muriatic acid so it is important to go slow when needing to lower one or the other, or both at the same time.
